Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD), which had issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall at most places in six districts of Odisha on Sunday, said that the rainfall activity in the state will again continue for three more days, starting March 11, under the influence of two monsoon troughs.

“As the cyclonic circulation over the sub-Himalayan West Bengal and neighbourhood has weakened, the rainfall in Odisha will subside in the next 12 hours. There will be no rainfall in the state for the next two days on Monday and Tuesday as the weather will remain dry. However, the rainfall will begin from March 11 and continue for three days under the influence of two monsoon troughs— one from south Uttar Pradesh to interior Tamil Nadu across east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana and Rayalaseema and the other from east Uttar Pradesh to Bangladesh across Bihar and West Bengal. As a result,” said the IMD in a morning bulletin today.

The national weather agency has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Sundargarh on Sunday.

Other the other hand, the morning bulletin of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, predicted thunderstorm with lightning and hail/intense rainfall with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at some places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Jagatsingpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak and Balasore between 12 pm and 3 pm

Meanwhile, rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Sunday was the highest in Cuttack with 53.7 mm followed by Phulbani (43.6), Paradip (31) and Jharsuguda (12).

Normal life was hit in Cuttack city after rainwater entered several houses in the low-lying areas on Saturday afternoon due to heavy rainfall.
