Bhubaneswar: The vagaries of the south-west monsoon has abnormally raised the day temperature in Odisha in September.
Explaining the sudden change in the weather conditions, well-known meteorologist and former director of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar Sarat Chandra Sahu said that the average maximum day temperature in Odisha in September usually remains at 32 degree Celsius. But as the monsoon trough has shifted towards the north, the rainfall in Odisha has subsided which has resulted in a sharp rise in the day temperature.
He also said that as the relative humidity in the atmosphere has come down to 45-55 per cent, the day temperature has gone up.
However, Sahu also said that there is a possibility of formation of a low-pressure area over the south-east Bay of Bengal off the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast around September 13. This apart, there will be rain and thundershower at some places due to the rise in the day temperature, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, the temperature recorded in the last 24 hours remained at 36 degree Celsius and above in Chandbali (36.2), Angul (36.7), Malkangiri (36) and Paralakhemundi (36.5). Places, where the temperature has hovered around 35 degrees and above, are Cuttack (35), Bhubaneswar (35.2), Sambalpur (35.9), Balangir (35), Titlagarh (35.5), Nayagarh (35), Boudh (35.5) and Rayagada (35).
