Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon is likely to withdraw from some parts of northwest and central India during the next two to three days, the regional meteorological centre, Bhubaneswar, informed on Thursday.

It will further withdraw from the remaining parts of Gujarat and some parts of Maharashtra and east India during the subsequent two days.

According to the midday bulletin, the southwest monsoon has remained active over Odisha with light to moderate spells of rain at most places in interior parts and many places in coastal areas of the state. Heavy downpours have also been witnessed in 10 districts, whereas, no forecast for heavy rainfall has been made for the next five days.

Usually, the withdrawal process of the monsoon starts in the state by October 10 but it has reportedly been delayed due to widespread rain triggered by low pressures and cyclonic circulations. The cyclonic circulation over the north Andaman Sea & neighbourhood is now lying over central Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, the MeT office further said.

There is also the probability of a fresh cyclonic circulation forming over east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea between October 14 and October 20.

Meanwhile, a yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning has been issued for one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput till Friday morning and some parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Malkangiri, and Koraput during the subsequent 24 hours.

Although no warning has been sounded for the next three days from October 14 to October 16, light rainfall is likely to continue in the interior and coastal Odisha. There will be little change in the weather condition thereafter.
