Bhubaneswar: In order to supply PDS rice to beneficiaries every month as per state government decision, two districts in Odisha have completed lifting of their stock.
The government had decided to provide monthly ration under the public distribution beneficiaries under food security from January, 2005. For this, the government had directed the collectors of all districts to make arrangements for lifting PDS rice from its godowns.
As per the direction, lifting of PDS rice was started from December 6. In the last 14 days, the collectors of Nabarangpur and Deogarh completed lifting the rice earmarked for their districts on Friday, according to a release of Food Supply and Consumer Welfare department.
Other districts will complete the process by Saturday. Dealers in many parts of the state have started distribution at government fair price shops and dealer points to the beneficiaries and the process will be completed by December 25.
The decision to provide PDS ration to the beneficiaries on monthly basis instead of every three months was taken at a meeting held recently in the presence of Minister for Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Krushna Chandra Patra and principal secretary of the department Sanjay Kumar Singh along with other senior officials.
All district collectors and District Chief Civil Supply Officers were informed about the decision and advised to take necessary steps in this regard. Besides, the collectors have been asked to further speed up the process of e-KYC of the beneficiaries and complete it by next month.
