Bhubaneswar: Dr Achyuta Samanta, Founder of KIIT and KISS, has been honoured with two more honorary doctorate degrees by prominent universities in Guatemala.
Rural University of Guatemala and Maya Kaqchikel University bestowed the prestigious honours on Dr Samanta during his two-day visit to the Central American nation
These marked the 54th and 55th honorary doctorates for the highly-decorated Dr Samanta, whose contributions to education and social welfare, particularly within the realm of tribal education, has been repeatedly acknowledged.
Rural University of Guatemala’s Rector and Founder Dr Fidel Reisley honoured Dr Samanta at a special function.
Dr Samanta’s 55th honorary doctorate was conferred on him by Maya Kaqchikel University in a unique manner, incorporating local tribal traditions. Given the tribal nature of this university, a distinctive ritual was performed. Their deity was worshipped, and permission granted before the certificate was presented to Dr Samanta.
An elaborate four-hour tribal ceremony took place in a serene and natural setting, where customs of Guatemala’s indigenous community were meticulously adhering to.
Several dignitaries, including the university’s Founder, a Nobel Laureate representing the institution, Indian Ambassador to Guatemala Manoj Mohapatra and university’s faculties, were present at the ceremony.
