Bhadrak: North Eastern Electricity Supply Company of Odisha (NESCO) officials on Tuesday felicitate Kartik Nath, a resident of Bhadrak district who lives by seeking alms, for setting an example by clearing Rs 2000 pending electricity bills to avoid power supply disconnection.
Amid crackdown by CESU against defaulters, Nath recently paid Rs 2000 of the pending Rs 2,557 and assured to deposit the rest amount soon.
“The electricity officials came to my house and asked to pay the pending bill. With summer ahead, I don’t want my family to suffer and that’s why I decided to clear the dues,” he said.
Nath also said that he would now pay bills every month without fail.
The incident came to light after a video went viral on social media.
He had earned praises of the authorities concerned for clearing the dues despite his poor financial condition. They also gave him money to buy electric bulb and food.
“He has set an example by paying the electricity bill. We urge everyone to clear their dues,” said an official.
