Bhubaneswar: Rainfall activity in Odisha is likely to increase with the formation of a low-pressure area over westcentral Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood on Monday.
“Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area has formed over westcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
On Sunday, the MeT office had issued yellow warning for heavy rainfall in some parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal during the next 24 hours.
The intensity of rain is likely to increase further with extreme spells at some places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri and Khurda on October 4. Heavy rainfall is also likely at some places in Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh during this period.
Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput Rayagada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Nabarangpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati the following day. Yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been sounded for one or two places in Nuapada, Bargarh, Nabarangpur, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh on October 6.
There will be a decrease in the intensity of rainfall thereafter, it added.
