New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday announced that there will be as many as 150 private trains running on the public-private partnership (PPP) model in the next few years.
While unveiling the Union Budget 2020, the finance minister said that these trains will be modeled on the Tejas express. Sitharaman also iterated that the high-speed train service between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will be actively pursued.
In the other proposals for the railway sector, the minister informed:
— There will be large solar power projects alongside rail tracks.
— Four stations to be redeveloped with help of private sector.
— 550 Wi-Fi zones have been commissioned at railway stations.
