Bhubaneswar: At a time when qualified jobseekers are languishing in joblessness, more than two lakh sanctioned posts in various departments of Odisha government continue to lie vacant.
If Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s reply to a query by BJD MLA Ganeswar Behera in the State Assembly on Monday is anything to go by, as many as 2,05,228 government posts are lying vacant in Odisha.
Responding to the Kendrapada MLA’s question on vacant government posts, the CM stated, “As per the information with Finance department, the sanctioned strength of government posts in Odisha is 5,96,647, as on December 31, 2023.”
According to information shared by the CM, the maximum 63,405 posts are lying vacant in the School and Mass Education department followed by 39,127 in Health and Family Welfare department.
In the Health department a majority 12,306 posts are lying vacant in Group A category followed by 18,183 in the Group C.
Similarly, in School and Mass Education department a majority 37,680 posts are lying vacant in Group C category followed by 18,974 posts in Group B, the CM stated.
This apart, 19,889 posts in Home Department, 11,810 posts in Revenue and Disaster Management, 7,667 posts in Water Resources, 7,296 posts in Agriculture and Farmers’ Empowerment, and 6,072 posts in Fisheries and Animal Resources department are lying vacant.
