Shimla: Nine days after the car carrying Vetri Duraisamy, son of former Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy, plunged into the Sutlej river in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, his body was found.
Vetri, director of the Tamil film ‘Endraavathu Oru Naal’, was on a journey from Shimla to Spiti when his vehicle was involved in an accident on February 4.
While Gopinath, a co-passenger, was rescued and is currently receiving medical treatment, the car’s driver, Tenzin, was found dead. However, the location of the 45-year-old Vetri remained unknown.
In hopes of locating his son, Saidai Duraisamy announced a reward of Rs 1 crore for any information regarding Vetri’s whereabouts.
In the course of the search operation, law enforcement officials discovered traces of human brain tissue near the riverbank, which were gathered for examination and DNA profiling to ascertain whether they belonged to Vetri.
Numerous teams, comprising the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) Uttarakhand, and local district police officials, were deployed for search operations.
Vetri’s body was discovered by a team of divers from the Mahin Nag Association, approximately 3 kilometers from the accident site. The body was then transported to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGCMH) in Shimla for postmortem examination before being released to the family.
Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, extended his sympathies to Saidai Duraisamy, recognising the profound sorrow that no parent should ever have to face.
