Dhenkanal: A mother elephant and its calf were rescued from a septic tank at Talaberana village under Mahabir Road Forest Range in Dhenkanal on Saturday.
Sources said residents spotted the female elephant and its calf in the tank and tried to rescue them. The two then ventured back to the forest.
A herd of elephants had ventured into the village in search of food on Friday night. Residents said the elephant and its calf fell into the septic tank accidentally.
