Malkangiri: A woman allegedly gave poison to her two children and then committed suicide at Godaguda village in Malkangiri district on Saturday.
The deceased woman has been identified as Sita Madkami.
According to sources, Sita allegedly gave some food mixed with poison to her five-year old daughter and eight-year old son. Then she also consumed the poison.
Later, some neighbours spotted the three lying unconscious and took them to Malkangiri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
However, Sita died on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment and the condition of the two children is stated to be critical.
Though the exact cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, police suspect that poverty may have driven Sita to take the drastic step.
