Mother & Child Killed As Metro Pillar Collapses; FIR Against BMRCL & Contractor

Bengaluru: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman and her two-and-a-half-year old son lost their lives after an under-construction Metro railway pillar collapsed here on Tuesday.

The mishap took place in Nagavara area, where a Metro railway pillar on the road from Kalyan Nagar to HRBR Layout came crashing down.

The woman, who was travelling with her husband and kid on his bike, were injured in the incident. Passers-by and Metro workers acted swiftly and took the family to the hospital. However, the woman, identified as 25-year-old Tejaswi, and her son Vihaan succumbed to grievous injuries in the hospital.

“The couple along with their son was heading towards Hebbal. The Metro pillar was overloaded and collapsed on the bike. The mother and son were pillion riders. They suffered grievous injuries and were shifted to Altis hospital. They succumbed to the injuries at the hospital,” said DCP East Bheemashankar S Guled.

Police issued an FIR against Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) and contractor NCC Ltd, reported Republic TV.

BMRCL will slap showcause notice to construction giant NCC, which was given the contract in 2021.
