Rourkela: A woman and her five-year-old son were trampled to death by wild elephants at Sialajora village under Kuanaramunda block in Sundargarh district late on Wednesday.
A herd of five elephants strayed into the village and attacked Sambari Pradhan and her son Shatru, while they were fast asleep in their house.
Protesting against the incident, a group of villagers staged a road blockade near the village demanding compensation for the family of the deceased and immediate steps to drive away the elephant herd.
“Elephants from Kuanaramunda forest range strayed into the village in search of food. However, efforts are on to chase them out,, a forest officer said.
