MoU For Affordable Cancer Care In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, faculty of medicine of the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (Deemed to be University) here, on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rotary Cancer Referral Centre to provide screening, care and affordable treatment to people belonging to poor and disadvantaged sections of the society.

According to the MoU, Sum Hospital would provide doctors and para-medical staff for conducting cancer screening camps in different parts of Odisha and regular checkups at the Rotary Cancer Referral Centre here.

Besides, treatment would be provided to the patients referred by the Rotary Cancer Referral Centre at affordable cost on a par with central government prices.

The Rotary Cancer Referral Centre has been set up by the Cancer Care and Screening Trust, Rotary Club of Bhadrak Mid Town.

“This is one of several initiatives being undertaken by SOA to serve the society at large,” Prof. Amit Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor of SOA, said.

The MoU, which would remain in vogue for three years, was signed by Prof. Gangadhar Sahu and Dr. Pushparaj Samantasinhar, Dean and Medical Superintendent of IMS and SUM Hospital respectively, while Mr. Ajay Agarwal, District Governor of Rotary International District 3262 and Mr. K. C. Swain, President of Rotary Club Kharabela were the signatories for Rotary.

Prominent Rotarian and former Police Commissioner of Mumbai,  Arup Patnaik, who was present on the occasion, hailed the MoU as a unique development saying it would extend a great help to those suffering from cancer.

Prof. Sahu said the efforts of SUM Hospital were aimed at providing succor to the poor and underprivileged sections of the society.
