Mumbai: Amid rumours of split, Mouni Roy and Suraj Nambiar confirmed their separation through a joint statement, urging people to respect their privacy during this difficult time.
The couple took to social media to share a note, stating that they are handling the separation “privately and amicably”, and requested dignity and understanding from the public and media.
Mouni and Suraj also expressed concern over the “unnecessary and intrusive attention” surrounding their personal lives.
They dismissed several rumours circulating online, calling them “fictitious narratives and blatant falsehoods” that do not accurately represent the reality of their relationship.
“We note with dismay the unnecessary and intrusive attention into our personal lives by certain quarters of the media. We would like to state that we have decided to part ways and are taking the necessary time to address matters privately and amicably,” the statement read.
The couple shared that after “careful reflection on changing personal priorities,” they had mutually decided to part ways and move ahead separately with “mutual respect and understanding.”
“At this point, we are focused on navigating this phase thoughtfully and privately. We will endeavour to cherish our friendship in times to come,” the statement added.
“Humbly requesting everyone to give us privacy and dignity and not give out any false stories about me or Suraj. Expecting all of you to give us privacy in these hard times. Humble request to all the media houses to please stop.”
The statement from Mouni and Suraj comes after days of intense speculation surrounding their marriage.
Rumours first surfaced earlier this week after reports claimed the couple had unfollowed each other on Instagram, sparking discussion about possible trouble in their relationship.
At the time, both still reportedly had pictures together on their profiles, though social media users had already begun speculating about a split.
The rumours gained momentum after reports suggested that Mouni had either deleted or archived several photos with Suraj, while his Instagram account appeared to have been deactivated or removed.
The couple got married on January 27, 2022, at the Hilton Goa Resort in Candolim according to both Malayali and Bengali rituals.
