Bhubaneswar: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has requested his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik to ensure proper care of Tigress Sundari at Satkosia Tiger Reserve till she is shifted to her natural habitat in Madhya Pradesh.
Sundari was brought from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and a three-year-old tiger, Mahavir, was brought from Kanha Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh in June 2018 as part of an inter-state tiger translocation project.
Unfortunately, four months after release into the wild of Satkosia Tiger Reserve, Mahavir was caught in a snare and died on November 15 while Sundari turned hostile and killed two persons even before venturing into deep forest. It was tranquilized in November 6 and put in the enclosure at Raigoda.
Singh said following the permission by National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), construction of tiger safari is underway in tiger reserve at Kanha National Park, Bandhavgarh National Park and Pench National Park. As decided by the NTCA, Sundari will be kept at the Ghorela Centre inside the Kanha Tiger Reserve before releasing her in the wild, he added.
