Bhopal: The safety and security of doctors was once again focus after a shocking incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar.
A lady doctor of Bundelkhand Medical College & Hospital claimed that a BJP youth wing leader molested her inside the campus and threatened to kill her.
An FIR has been registered against the accused Anil Srivastava, a member of BJP Yuva Morcha state executive committee, and his associate under several provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police, raids are underway to arrest both the accused.
The in
cident has sparked outrage among doctors and affected healthcare services. The Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) has warned of a statewide strike if the accused are not arrested soon.
According to the complaint, the incident took place around 2 am on Thursday when a female patient was brought to the hospital’s emergency department for treatment. Hospital staff claimed that repeated phone calls were made regarding the patient’s treatment even before she arrived.
The lady doctor alleged that while the patient was attended to, two men who had accompanied her began misbehaving with the medical staff. When the doctor objected, Srivastava aka Anil Pipra, allegedly tried to touch her inappropriately and threatened to shoot her when she stepped outside the hospital premises.
Members of the nursing staff also accused the two men of misbehaviour and intimidation.
“A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on the complaint of the female doctor. Considering the seriousness of the allegations, efforts are being made to arrest both accused at the earliest,” Additional Superintendent of Police Narendra Solanki was quoted as saying by NDTV.
