MP-MLA Couple’s Bail Petition: No Relief Yet, Court Reserves Order For May 2

Mumbai: A Sessions court on Saturday reserved order on Navneet and Ravi Rana’s bail petition for May 2.

The Independent MP-MLA couple from Maharashtra’s Amravati district was arrested on the evening of April 23 over the Hanuman Chalisa row after Khar police registered a case under section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) against the couple.

Sedition charge was added later, and the couple was sent to 14-day judicial custody.

They applied for bail, but the court refused to entertain their petition, before finally agreeing to hear it on Saturday.

The hearing went on for nearly two-and-a-half hours before the judge said he will give the order on Monday, reported India Today.
