Mumbai: Actress cum filmmaker Anushka Sharma took to her Instagram handle to hit back at Sunil Gavaskar, who blamed her for Virat Kohli’s poor performance in the IPL 2020 match on Thursday.
During the commentary after Virat’s dismissal, Gavaskar had said, “Ab jo lockdown tha toh, sirf Anushka ke bowling ki practice ki unhone, voh video dekhiye. Usse toh kuch nahi banna hai,”
This statement didn’t go down well with Anushka and her fans. While fans started trolling Gavaskar for his insensitive statement, Anushka asked the cricket legend to give her an explanation for his distasteful remark.
Expressing her displeasure over the sweeping statement, Anushka asked Gavaskar not to drag her name every time while commenting over her husband’s performance.
She further said that just like the other cricketers and their personal lives are respected, she and her husband should also be respected.
“That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her of her husband’s game? I’m sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game. Don’t you think you should have an equal amount of respect for me and us?,” wrote Anushka.
On Thursday, during RCB’s match against King XI Punjab, Kohli got stumped after scoring just one run for five balls. He also missed two important catches during the match.
