New Delhi: Eminent meteorologist Mrutyunjay Mahapatra of Odisha was on Tuesday, appointed as Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Popularly known as the ‘Cyclone man of India’, he will take charge of his new assignment on August 1 for a period of five years.
Mahapatra has received accolades from all quarters for his correct forecast and assessment of several cyclones including the recent Cyclone Fani.
