Mumbai: Anant Ambani, younger son of billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani, got engaged to industrialist Viren Merchant’s daughter Radhika in a traditional ceremony at the Ambani residence on Thursday.
Age-old traditions like he Gol Dhana and Chunari Vidhi were conducted with great enthusiasm in the family temple and ceremony areas amid bonhomie between the two families.
Guests were treated to a surprise performance by Ambani family members, led by Anant’s mother Nita Ambani.
The festivities began with Ambani family members, led by Anant’s sister Isha, going to the Merchant residence to invite them and Radhika to the evening’s function.
The Merchant family was received by the Ambanis at their residence with aarti and chanting of mantras.
The families followed Anant and Radhika to the temple to seek Lord Krishna’s blessings. The functions started at the ceremony venue with a Ganesh puja, followed by the reading of traditional Lagan Patrika or invitation to the upcoming wedding.
Gol Dhana and Chunari Vidhi followed with blessings and gifts exchanged between Anant and Radhika’s families.
The ring ceremony then took place with Anant and Radhika exchanging rings and seeking blessings of elders.
Anant, who completed his studies from Brown University in the USA, has served in various capacities at Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) under chairman & MD Mukesh.
He currently heads the energy business of RIL.
Radhika graduated from New York University and is a Director on the Board of Encore Healthcare.
