Bharatpur: Rajasthan Police arrested 15 people on Sunday after busting a multi-state sextortion racket in Mewat region of Deeg district.
Bharatpur range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rahul Prakash informed that after receiving specific information, several police teams raided multiple locations in Mewat region and took in custody 15 members of a gang involved in sextortion.
During the raids, conducted at Pathrali, Rayawka and Haiwatka villages under Gopalgarh police station, police recovered 61 ATM cards, card swiping machines, 33 mobiles, six computers and several laptops from their possession.
One of the targets was a Delhi doctor from whom the gang extorted Rs 8.6 lakh by threatening to post his obscene video, which they recorded through a video call, on Internet.
Modus Operandi
The fraudsters make fake Facebook profiles using fake names of girls and mainly targeted old and wealthy people.
Once the person accepts the friend request, the gang uses different mobile phones for online sex chatting and then blackmail them by threatening the video of their sex chat will be uploaded on social sites.
IGP Prakash said that police are trying to trace other members of the gang.
