Mumbai: The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai received a bomb threat on Wednesday afternoon, according to reports. An unidentified caller claimed that there was a conspiracy to blow up the airport, reported the India Today.
The call was made to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) control room. According to reports, the caller had mentioned that a person named Mohammad was allegedly carrying explosives on a flight to Azerbaijan.
The CISF immediately alerted the Sahar Police about the threat call. Authorities intensified the surveillance on airport premises. They conducted thorough checks.
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has stepped up security measures nationwide amid such hoax threat calls.
Last month, over 450 hoax calls were reported. This has led to widespread concern regarding the potential implications for passenger safety and national security.
The NIA’s cyber wing has launched a comprehensive analysis of these foreign threat calls. The probe focuses on ascertaining the motives behind these calls and assessing their authenticity.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has also issued an advisory to all social media platforms last month. The advisory has| asking social media platforms to adhere to provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Rules and Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and take steps to ‘promptly’ take down bomb threat posts or else “be held liable.”
Another flight from Nagpur to Kolkata made an emergency landing at Raipur airport on Thursday following a bomb threat, reported the PTI. IndiGo plane 6E812, carrying 187 passengers and six crew members, is currently being checked at the airport. Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Kirtan Rathore told reporters that a further probe was underway.
The plane landed at Raipur around 9 am and was immediately taken to the isolation bay.
