Mumbai: A routine complaint by Bollywood singer Bhumi Trivedi about her fake profile on social media has opened yet another Pandora’s box in the film industry. It has come to light that many high profile celebrities including film stars, singers, builders, and sportspersons are guilty of buying followers on social media.
In the eye of the storm is Bollywood rapper Badshah, who was questioned for nearly 10 hours in connection with the social media fake followers scam on Friday.
Badshah alias Aditya Prateik Singh Sisodia came to the Crime Branch office around 12 noon for the second consecutive day. He has been summoned again today, reported ZeeNews.
The Crime Branch has a list of 238 questions for the rapper. What is rattling the Crime Branch is that most of his songs have got millions of views but the comments on the videos are only a few hundred, the report said.
Badshah’s song “Pagal Hai” garnered 75 million views in a day but Google rejected his claims. Besides, the rapper had a suddenly lost a lot of ‘followers’. The crime branch has asked for the list of all his followers, ZeeNews reported.
In the investigation so far, Mumbai Police have found as many as 176 high profile people who have allegedly paid to get followers, ZeeNews reported.
Earlier on July 29, the Mumbai Police had issued summons to Radio Jockey Roshan Abbas and former IPL commentator cum actor Gaurav Kapoor in this connection. They are investors in Chtrbox Digital Company, owned by Pranay Swaroop.
Chtrbox is one of the leading social media influencers marketing company. Last year it was accused of leaking private data of as many as 49 million Instagram users, ZeeNews reported.
