Mumbai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has received an email issuing a threat of a terror attack in India’s financial capital.
According to a PTI report, Thursday’s email claimed that a person linked to the Taliban will carry out the attack at various places in Mumbai.
Security was beefed up in the bustling city following the threat from the unidentified person.
NIA, Mumbai Police’s crime branch and Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad are jointly looking into the matter.
The email address from which the threat message was sent had ‘CIA’ in it and the sender claimed that someone with Taliban links will perpetrate the attack.
A police official informed that the IP (internet protocol) address of the sender has been traced to Pakistan.
A full-fledged investigation has been launched, but police suspect it could be a mischief.
The NIA received threat emails earlier as well, including one last month. On probing it, police found no substance in it.
