Mumbai: Mumbai went on high alert on Friday after a threatening message was received on the official WhatsApp number of the city’s Traffic Police, claiming that 34 vehicles had been rigged as “human bombs” with nearly 400 kg of RDX and planted across the metropolis. The message warned that the blast would “shake the entire city,” prompting an immediate and widespread security response.
The threat was allegedly issued by a group calling itself “Lashkar-e-Jihadi,” which further claimed that 14 Pakistani terrorists had entered India to execute the attack. Police officials confirmed that the message was being treated with the highest level of seriousness and that all agencies had been roped in to verify and track the source.
Soon after the message surfaced, security was stepped up across Mumbai and Maharashtra, with additional deployments at railway stations, airports, religious places, crowded markets, and other sensitive installations. Teams were pressed into combing operations to check suspicious vehicles, while patrolling was intensified in several areas. The Mumbai Police Control Room and Traffic Police were also put on alert to monitor developments and coordinate with state and central agencies.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm while maintaining vigilance, asking the public to immediately report any suspicious activity or unattended vehicles. Police have assured that every lead is being pursued and further updates will be issued as the investigation progresses.
