Bhubaneswar: Mumbai Police on Sunday arrested five persons from Odisha’s Bhadrak district for allegedly duping a retired person in the metropolis of Rs 35 lakh through cyber fraud.
According to sources, the victim, Moses Vincent, living in the area under Bandra police station in Mumbai, had lodged a complaint with the cyber police alleging that he was cheated of the amount by fraudulent means a few months back.
Following the complaint, Bandra police started investigation and traced the accused persons to Bhadrak in Odisha. A five-member team of Mumbai police, led by senior officers Poonam Yadav and Nitin Gachhe, arrived in Bhadrak on Saturday.
With the help of local police, the team tracked the movement of the accused persons and obtained permission from the SDJM Court, Bhadrak for their arrest.
After the court issued its approval to the request, the police team from Mumbai arrested the five persons following raids in different places of Bhadrak town on Sunday.
The arrested persons are Pramod Kumar alias Rabindra Behera of Charampa, Rakesh Kumar alias Hariram Choudhury of Kuans, Subhendu alias Nirakar Das of Baralpokhari, Jaydeep alias Amar Kumar Parida of Basahapur and Manoj Kumar alias Anadi Charan Rout of Mauda Balipatna.
They have been remanded to police custody and will be taken to Mumbai on Monday, the sources said.
