Balasore: A Head Assistant and a peon of Soro Municipality in Odisha’s Balasore district were apprehended by Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday for allegedly accepting Rs 6,000 bribe from a retired employee to facilitate release of his revised pension.
The accused were identified as Sumita Panigrahi, Head Assistant in the office of the Executive Officer in Soro Municipality and Pitabas Das, a peon of the same office.
Panigrahi allegedly demanded and accepted bribe Rs.6,000/- from the complainant through Das for facilitating release of his revised arrear pension. The entire bribe money has been recovered from accused Das and seized, a Vigilance release said.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are being conducted at 3 locations of Panigrahi in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts from Disproportionate Assets angle.
In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is in progress against both the accused persons.
