Dhaka: The father of a victim in Bangladesh’s recent violent protests has filed a murder case against star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina among others.
Rafiqul Islam, who lost his son Rubel on August 7, filed the case at Dhaka’s Adabor police station, according to a report published in Dhaka Tribune.
Rafiqul claimed that Rubel was shot in the chest and abdomen when he was taking part in a rally on Ring Road in Adabor. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries.
A total of 155 persons have been named in the case, with former Bangladesh captain Shakib – currently in Pakistan playing a Test series – being the 28th accused, while popular Bangladeshi actor Ferdous Ahmed is the 55th accused. Both are former Awami League MPs.
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who resigned and fled to India on August 5, was also named in the case.
Around 500 unidentified persons were also accused, the report added.
Hasina’s government faced nationwide protests from students for weeks against job reservation, leading to widespread violence, anarchy and deaths.
