Balangir: A prisoner serving life sentence for murdering his wife was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a jail in Odisha’s Balangir on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Bhismadev Sahu alias Gopal of Kushang village under Bolangir Sadar police station, had been lodged in jail since 2021.
His body was found hanging inside the jail premises, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death.
Sources said Sahu had been arrested in connection with the murder of his wife and had remained in custody since 2021. About a year ago, a court convicted him in the case and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
Jail officials found him hanging inside the jail on Saturday morning. The sudden discovery of his body has triggered suspicion and concern among his family members.
The body was sent to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Family members of the deceased have alleged that Sahu was murdered inside the jail.
