Cuttack: A murder convict, who on Friday escaped from the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre in Odisha’s Cuttack, where he was under treatment, was nabbed from Tankapani Road in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The convict, identified as Muku Santa (50) of Koraput, was earlier lodged in Koraput Jail but was shifted to Chowdwar Jail in Cuttack after he was diagnosed with throat cancer.
Santa was being brought regularly to the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre for treatment. On Thursday, he was discharged from the hospital. Jail staff escorting him, however, decided to keep him there for a day due to paperwork.
On Friday morning, the jail staff had gone to Mangalabag police station for some work. Taking advantage of the situation, Santa escaped.
