Jajpur: A murder convict who was serving life term in a jail was found hanging inside a forest in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Tuesday, a day after he escaped while undergoing treatment in a hospital.
The prisoner, identified as Sukra Munda, had escaped from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where he was undergoing treatment.
As per reports, Sukra was serving life imprisonment in Radharamanapur Model Jail in Cuttack after being convicted in a murder case. He had been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack following illness.
However, he escaped from the hospital on Monday and a hunt was on to trace him.
The prisoner was found hanging from a tree inside Giringamali forest under the jurisdiction of Kaliapani police station of Jajpur district on Tuesday morning.
The body has been recovered and sent for postmortem. Further details are awaited.
