Murder Over Obscene Video Clip: Family Of Deceased Demands CBI Probe

Bhubaneswar: Family members of Unmay Padhi, whose half-charred body was recovered from Kuakhai riverbed on March 21, have demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

The demand followed Commissionerate Police clarification on the medical and forensic reports that hinted at suicide.

Earlier in the day, Police Commissioner Y B Khurania had informed that medical and physical evidence revealed that Unmay had stabbed himself with a knife and then self-immolated.

However, the postmortem report of the deceased, hailing from BJB Nagar here, had stated that a number of people were involved in the murder. Miscreants had hit the victim on the head and then stabbed him in the stomach. They later set him on fire before fleeing the spot, the report added.

Police had began the investigation on basis of the allegation made by Unmay’s family that he was murdered over an obscene video clip.

A girl, who was detained in connection with the case, had knocked the doors of the Crime Branch seeking an impartial probe.

The girl, along with her male friend and Unmay’s brother, was picked up by police for questioning in connection with the case on March 24.

She had also requested the cyber cell of the Crime Branch to destroy the video clip, featuring her along with Unmay that had gone viral last year, and punish those who had circulated it.
