Malkangiri: Tension prevailed in the cut-off area of Odisha’s Malkangiri district as tribals of Jantapai village gheraoed Papermetla police station on Monday following the death of a man whose body was recovered from the kitchen room of an anganwadi centre.
The daughter of the deceased said that she had gone with his father Raju Hantal to a weekly haat at Jantapai on Friday (September 13) for medicines and ration. While on the way to the haat, some plain-clothed BSF jawans summoned her father. “As my father did not return home, we went frantically looking for him and found his body inside the anganwadi kitchen room around 3 pm on Saturday with multiple injuries,” she added.
Alleging that the man was killed by BSF jawans, the family members and the villagers gheraoed Papermetla police station on Sunday demanding their immediate arrest. They repeated it the following day.
Though the police called the family members to hand over the body after postmortem, the latter refused.
Till reports last came in, the police were in talks with the villagers.
