Bhopal: In a bizarre incident, a woman whose last rites were performed by her family 18 months has returned alive.
The shocking turn of events was reported in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district, where Lalita Bai went to the police station recently, and confirmed her identity by showing documents like Aadhaar card and Voter ID.
Her reappearance was even more ironic as four persons had been accused of Lalita’s alleged ‘murder’, convicted and sent to prison!
According to Lalita’s father Ramesh Nanuram Banchhada, days after she went missing last year, the family identified a mutilated body based on a tattoo on the hand and a black thread tied around the leg. Convinced that it was Lalita’s body, the family performed her last rites.
The police registered a murder case against Imran, Shahrukh, Sonu and Ejaz, who were later jailed.
The obvious question that the locals are asking, is whether there will be any redressal for the four men who were wrongly convicted and imprisoned?
Explaining her saga, Lalita revealed that she had gone with a man named Shahrukh to Bhanupara. After staying there for two days, she was allegedly sold to another man for Rs 5 lakh.
She claimed that she lived in Kota for a year and a half before getting a chance to escape and return to her village.
Lalita, whose husband had abandoned her, was reunited with her two children whose joy knew no bounds.
