Keonjhar: An elderly man barged into the office of Anandapur Revenue Inspector (RI) Simantini Sahu on Monday and attacked her with a billhook.
The officer sustained critical injuries in the attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital.
According to sources, police have detained the accused, identified as Gobind Jena of Bangidi village, in connection with the case and are interrogating him.
Later, Sub Collector Gopinath Kuanr visited Sahu at the hospital. “I strongly condemn the incident and strictest action would be taken against the culprit according to the law,” he said.
The accused told the media that alleged discrepancies in land registration by the office forced him to take the step. He had been frequenting the office for the past 14 days. “My land was entered in someone else’s name, while someone else’s land was registered in my name,” he claimed.
