Murders Of 3 Indian Students: Delhi Raises Concern With Canadian Authorities, Seeks Thorough Probe

New Delhi: The murders of three Indian students in Canada last week has been raised by the Indian government with authorities of the Justin Trudeau administration.

Describing the incidents as “unfortunate tragedies”, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal extended condolences to the victims’ families.

“We are saddened at these terrible tragedies that have struck our nationals in Canada. Our High Commission and Consulates are extending all possible help in the matter,” Jaiswal said, referring to the Indian High Commission in Ottawa and consulates in Toronto and Vancouver.

“We have also issued an advisory for our nationals and Indian students to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant in view of the deteriorating security environment in Canada due to the growing incidence of hate crimes and criminal violence,” the MEA official added.

Indian officials in Canada are in contact with local authorities to push for a thorough investigation into the killings.

In one of the incidents, 20-year-old Harshandeep Singh was shot dead in Edmonton during a shootout just after midnight on Friday. Harshandeep was working as a security guard.
