Mumbai: Odisha defended a moderate total to beat Chandigarh in their final Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy league match here on Friday.
The 17-run win, however, was not enough for Odisha to progress to the knockout stage as they finished fifth in Group B with 16 points (4 wins and 3 defeats). Kerala topped the group with 24 points from 7.
Opener Shantanu Mishra was in prime form after Odisha were asked to bat first. He and Subhranshu Senapati added 59 for the second wicket before both fell in the space of four overs. Shantanu top-scored with 59 off 50 balls (6×4) and Subhranshu smashed 3 sixes in a 21-ball 31.
Rakesh Pattanaik chipped in with a brilliant cameo of 27 off 12 balls (4×4, 1×6) as Odisha finished at 154/7.
The Odisha bowlers then put their hands up to bowl out Chandigarh for 137. Left-arm spinner Harshit Rathod bagged 3/27, while Govinda Poddar, Abhishek Yadav and Debabrata Pradhan claimed two wickets apiece.
