Koraput: Mutilated bodies of a man and his wife were found on the railway track near at a village near Laxmipur station in Odisha’s Koraput district on Wednesday.
Sources said the bodies of the two, identified as Buru Khura (58) and his wife Yamuna Khura (54) of Burja village were recovered in a mutilated state at near Bhuinpatna village, around 3 km from Laxmipur Railway Station.
The couple was reportedly engaged in small business activities.
The incident reportedly took place when the couple was returning home after finishing their work in Bhuinpatna village. When they were crossing the railway tracks, two trains approached simultaneously from opposite directions on the two tracks.
However, it was yet to be ascertained whether they died by suicide or were hit by one of the moving trains.
Locals initially spotted the bodies lying on the track and informed the police. The bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem.
The accident has sparked demands from residents for the construction of a bridge or the immediate installation of safety barriers at the site to prevent such incidents in the future.
