Bhubaneswar: Amid repeated opposition to her visits in Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha constituency, BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi on Sunday said that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the Odisha government are responsible for her safety and security.

“Protests are being organised during my visits to my constituency and nearby areas for the last 3 days, which I would like to term as hooliganism. I will be visiting Jayadev today and have written to authorities concerned about it. My safety is their responsibility. If there are any further attempt to disrupt my meetings in a planned manner while I am carrying out by duties and obligations towards the people of my constituency then the state government will be responsible for it,” Aparajita said and threatened to sit on dharna there and then.

“I am a woman MP and I feel unsafe here,” she added.

Aparajita faced opposition during her visit to Rickshaw Colony here about 3 days ago. It was reported that the locals were unhappy that she had never visited them even during the COVID pandemic when they had to face a lot of hardships.

Last month, attempts were allegedly made by some people to thwart her visit to a market place at Saheed Nagar in the city. A statement from Aparajita’s office said that local BJD leaders had threatened the vendors and asked them to oppose her visit. Some women were also mobilised by the ruling party as part of the plan, it said, adding that “Welcome Aparajita Sarangi” rented the air as soon as the BJP MP reached the site and walked through the market place waving at people.
