Balangir: Panic gripped tribals of Sanadangara village of Gudvela block in Odisha’s Balagir district after a big balloon fell on a paddy field on Saturday afternoon.
According to sources, some women were working in a paddy field when they spotted a white balloon-like object. Villagers soon rushed to the spot. The balloon, however, went off after some time.
On spotting some electronic equipment fitted to the balloon, the villagers informed Tusra police, which found the GPS unit tagged to it.
Police later seized the GPS unit and sent it to the district headquarters for examination.
While locals believe that the weather department might have released the balloon to monitor the climate, others suspect it to be the handiwork of Maoists.
