‘Mystery’ Over TMC Leader Mukul Roy’s Delhi Visit; Son Says He’s ‘Mentally Unstable’

Kolkata: Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mukul Roy’s visit to Delhi is shrouded in mystery.

The drama started when it came to light that the former Union minister, who had switched to BJP before rejoining TMC in 2021, flew to the national Capital on Monday evening without informing his family members.

Political circles have been abuzz with speculation over the 69-year-old’s next move, with some saying that he could be BJP-bound.

His son Subhranshu, a two-time MLA who like Mukul jumped ship and joined BJP before returning to TMC, filed a missing complaint last night itself.

On Tuesday, Subhranshu told mediapersons that Mukul was not in the right frame of mind and everyone should refrain from indulging in politics over an unwell person.

Mukul Roy’s son, Subhranshu, who had filed a missing complaint, claimed that the TMC leader is “mentally unstable” as well as physically unwell, and must resign from politics.

Subhranshu said that his father’s trip to Delhi was a ‘political game’ to malign TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and wondered where he got the money to travel to Delhi.

“Yesterday, a non-Bengali person was asked by an agency to hand over Rs 50,000 to Mukul Roy. My father has no money, his monthly income is Rs 21,000. I have not had any contact with my father till now. I don’t know if he is taking insulin or not. Dad takes 18 pills a day,” Subhranshu alleged.

“If my father joins BJP now, he will not join in a mentally stable state,” said Subhranshu.

“If anything happens to my father, who will take responsibility for him? I can’t say my father is a lunatic, but he is no less than that. He cannot say what the date is. His mental condition is very ill. He underwent spine and brain surgery. He has Parkinson’s and dementia. This is not done. They are playing a political game in this condition,” he added.
