Bhubaneswar: Mystery shrouds the death of a BTech student in Bhubaneswar with his father alleging that he was a victim of a well-planned murder.
According to police sources, Rakesh Mohanty was pursuing BTech in computer science at Apex Institute of Technology and Management (AITM) in Bhubaneswar. Rakesh, who was in the last year of the course, had gone with his friends for immersion of Ganesh idol after the puja in the institute on Monday.
While the group of students were immersing the idol in a nearby river, Rakesh along with another student Sandip Kar reportedly drowned. They were rushed to a private hospital in the city. But they succumbed in the hospital.
On being informed, his family members came to the hospital. A team from Chandaka police station seized the bodies and sent those for post-mortem.
Speaking to the media, Rakesh’s father raised his doubt over the circumstances leading to his son’s death and said he was murdered. He has filed a complaint in this regard at Chandaka police station.
“I was told over phone that Rakesh was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. When I came here, he was admitted in the ICU. Somebody from his institute gave me his mobile phone but did not say anything about the mishap. Later, the doctors said he had passed away. The officials of AITM have neither contacted me nor told me anything about my son,” the aggrieved father said.
