Balangir: A woman, who worked as an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Odisha’s Balangir district on Wednesday.
The woman has been identified as Damayanti Barik of Ramchandrapur under Deogaon police station limits.
According to sources, neighbours heard her husband, Kailash Karsai, screaming for help this morning and rushed to the house. They found him lying ou
tside the house with burn injuries and informed Deogoan police, who rushed him to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital at Balangir.
It is being suspected that ANM died in a fire incident while asleep last night. However, no items in the house were affected, raising further suspicion.
The couple hail from Sundargarh and the woman had been working as an ANM for almost 20 years. They have two adult children, who live away from home for their studies. Locals said that the husband was unemployed and allegedly involved in illegal betting activities. He frequently demanded money from his wife, which reportedly led to repeated arguments and domestic discord between the couple.
Police have registered a case and initiated a thorough investigation to determine whether it a case of suicide or planned murder.
