Jharsuguda: A key witness in the mysterious death of a 22-year-old youth, who was working as a cook at the residence of slain BJD leader Naba Das was seriously injured in an accident near Belpahar Municipality office in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Saturday.
The victim, Munu Prasad, earlier worked as a pet caretaker at the former minister’s residence.
According to sources, the mishap took place when the motorcycle, which Munu was riding, collided head-on with an SUV this morning. He has been admitted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, for treatment.
In February, police reopened the alleged suspicious death of Lalit Sahu, the cook who was found dead at staff quarters on April 17, 2022, following an appeal by his father. His body was apparently disposed of hurriedly, raising suspicion. The case became murkier when the deceased’s viscera samples were allegedly stolen from the postmortem room in December that year. A month later on January 29, 2023, Naba Das was shot dead by an on-duty police officer.
Police had earlier grilled Munu for over 2 hours in connection with the case.
