Jharsuguda: The district and sessions court at Odisha’s Jharsuguda on Monday postponed the hearing of a revision petition of the Crime Branch for a detailed mental evaluation of Gopal Das, the lone accused in minster Naba Das murder.
The Crime Branch (CB) had filed the petition at the district court after the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) at Jharsuguda earlier rejected its plea for further mental evaluation of the dismissed assistant sub-inspector at NIMHANS in Bengaluru.
The lower court held that all necessary tests can be conducted at the Choudwar jail where Gopal is lodged at present. But the district court postponed the hearing of the CB petition to March 1.

Meanwhile, the Orissa High Court has rejected a petition seeking protection for the family of Gopal. The petition was filed by advocate Sumant Swain. On hearing the petition, the court asked the petitioner what was his relation with the accused. As the petitioner failed to give satisfactory answer, the court rejected the petition.
