Bhubaneswar: Terming the chargesheet filed by Odisha Crime Branch in Naba Das murder case as an eyewash, BJP on Tuesday alleged involvement of two BJD leaders in the killing and demanded a CBI probe to book the real culprits.
Addressing a press meet in Bhubaneswar, senior BJP leader and opposition chief whip Mohan Charan Majhii claimed that there is nothing in the chargesheet filed by the Crime Branch 118 days after the daylight murder of Health Minister Naba Kishore Das on January 29.
Alleging that the chargesheet has been designed to save accused policeman Gopal Das, Majhi said there is no mention about the bullet that killed Naba Das.
The chargesheet has not specified whether the same bullet fired from the gun of Gopal Das had hit Naba Das, he said, adding this shows attempts are being made to save the dismissed policeman, who is the lone accused in the case.
Terming the probe conducted by the Crime Branch as shoddy, the senior BJP leader said there is no mention of any conspiracy angle in the chargesheet.
Stating that BJP had demanded examination of the call records of two senior BJD leaders by the probe agency, Majhi said no probe was done in this direction and the Crime Branch did not examine the phone call records of anyone.
Alleging that ruling BJD leaders were behind the high-profile murder, the BJP leader claimed attempts are being made to suppress the truth to protect the real conspirators.
Therefore, BJP has been demanding that the sensational murder case be handed over to CBI to ensure fair and impartial probe.
It may be noted that the 543-page chargesheet filed by the Crime Branch in the court of Jharsuguda JMFC last week stated that Naba Das was killed by Gopal Das over a personal grudge.
