Jharsuguda: The court here on Wednesday allowed Crime Branch (CB) to take Gopal Das, the lone accused in Odisha Health Minister Naba Das’ assassination case, on remand for five more days.
The JMFC court in Jharsuguda also granted permission to the Crime Branch of Odisha police to conduct narco and polygraph tests on the dismissed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police, according to sources.
Gopal Das was produced in the JMFC court as the second phase of remand of 4-day had ended. The Crime Branch had sought further remand of Gopal for five more days and the court granted its permission for the same. This is the third phase of remand for the accused.
Meanwhile, DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal visited the crime spot near Gandhi Chowk at Brajarajnagar. He was accompanied by director (Intelligence) Sanjeeb Panda and Northern Range IG Deepak Kumar.
Crime Branch investigation under the supervision of former Judge of High Court Justice JP Das is underway and the probe will take time, Bansal said.
It may be noted here that the Crime Branch had on Tuesday recreated the crime scene with the accused near Gandhi Chowk at Brajarajnagar where the ex-ASI had fired at the Minister from a very close range on January 29.
The Crime Branch is yet to ascertain the motive behind the killing, while Gopal reportedly claimed to have committed the crime due to personal hatred.
