Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday assured the family members of Naba Kishore Das that a proper investigation will be conducted into the murder of the senior BJD leader to nab and punish the real culprit as per the law.

The Chief Minister gave this assurance when the family members of Naba Das met him at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar. Das’ wife Minati Das, daughter Dipali, and son, Bisal discussed issues relating to the investigation in the murder case during the meeting with the Majhi.

Terming the killing of the then Minister as ‘very sad and condemnable, the Chief Minister assured the family that the government would re-examine all aspects of the case and take exemplary action against the culprit.

Majhi advised Minati Das to cooperate with the investigating agency and told her that she could personally inform him of any developments, a statement from the CMO said.

Minati Das and her family thanked the Chief Minister for meeting them personally and assuring them of justice.

After the meeting, Dipali Das told the media that they requested the Chief Minister to order a CBI probe into her father’s murder. “We hope the Chief Minister will consider our demand and order an impartial investigation,” she added.

The meeting of the family members came days after Minati Das srote to the Chief Minister seeking an appointment with him.

Sources said Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania and Director General of Crime Branch (CB) Vinaytosh Mishra were also present at the meeting.

It may be recalled that the then Health Minister Naba Das was shot at allegedly by a police ASI, Gopal Das, at Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda on January 29, 2023. He was later declared dead at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar the same evening.

The accused ASI was arrested the next day and the state government ordered a Crime Branch probe into the incident. The accused ASI was also dismissed from service.

In its charge sheet, the Crime Branch identified Gopal Das as the sole perpetrator, who committed the crime due to personal animosity.
